PROVIDENCE -- Familiar faces will be hard to find on defense Friday night for the Providence Bruins.

Because of injuries and callups, only one of the team's regular defensemen -- Andrew Bodnarchuk -- will be available.

Providence's top two defenders this season, Adam McQuaid and Andy Wozniewski, will be in Chicago, where the Boston Bruins play on Friday night.

Jeff Penner (hand), Drew Fata (ankle) and Alain Goulet (back) are injured, though Goulet might be ready for Saturday or Sunday, according to coach Rob Murray.

Scott Fletcher, who was recalled two weeks ago to replace Goulet, will serve a one-game suspension for having tape on his hand during a fight against Manchester on Sunday.

Besides Bodnarchuk, the P-Bruins are left with a patchwork defense corps.

Tom Galvin, who came in on a PTO from Muskegon of the International Hockey League when Penner went out, will be in the lineup.

So will Rob Kwiet and Jared Ross, both recalled from Reading of the ECHL.

Ryan Stokes, who was limited by injuries to just 20 games in Providence last season, is back on a PTO. He had been with Toledo of the East Coast Hockey League.

The newest face will be Julien Brouillette, who was brought in on a PTO from Charlotte of the ECHL. Brouillette, 23, is a 5-foot-10-inch, 185 pounder. He has a 5-10-15 scoring line in 25 games.

Murray said that as of Thursday afternoon the team was looking for another defenseman and hopes to have someone here in time for Friday night's game.

The Bruins won't change their game plan to accommodate all the new players. "We can't change the way we do things. We have to stick with it,'' Murray said.

Brad Marchand had the injured tendon in one of his feet surgically repaired on Wednesday. He will be in a cast and on crutches for 14 days, according to Murray. It is still not known how long he will be out.

Jeremy Reich will return to the Dunkin Donuts Center for the first time on Friday night with Bridgeport. Last season's P-Bruins captain, Reich broke his wrist in training camp with the New York Islanders. He returned to the lineup three games ago.

Rhode Islanders Jack Millea and Mark Messier have been chosen as linesmen for the American Hockey League all-star game on Jan. 19 in Portland. Millea and Messier have been working the lines at AHL games around New England for years. Millea also referees NCAA Division I games in the Northeast.
