Defenseman Johnny Boychuk, who was recalled to the Boston Bruins last Monday when the team was hit with a wave of injuries to its defensive corps, has been returned to the Providence Bruins.

Boychuk made his Bruins debut last Thursday against the Lightning. Prior to his recall, he had posted a team-best 23 points on four goals and 19 assists in 22 games this season for Providence, and led all AHL defensemen in both points and assists. The 6-2, 225-pound blueliner was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round (61st overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He has played in five NHL games in his career, four of which were with Colorado during the 2007-2008 campaign. He spent the majority of the 2007-2008 season with Lake Erie of the AHL where he notched 8-18-26 totals in 60 games.
